31 July 1917- James on leave in Middleton Junction

As the Battle of Passchendaele started on the Western Front, James was back home, in Grimshaw Lane, Middleton Junction.  So far we have not been able to find any pictures of his actual house, but we have found some photographs of his neighbourhood, taken around that time.

This picture shows the Wesleyan Chapel in Grimshaw Lane, that James and his family attended.  Just on the extreme left, you can see the chimney of the Brewery

Sadly, it has since been knocked down.
