26 July 1917 – James goes on leave for 10 days, until 5th August

DIARY: Thursday to Sunday Aug 5 on Leavediary-026-copy-5James went back to his home at 30, Grimshaw Lane, Middleton Junction.  This was his first leave since 13 March 1917.  The part of Grimshaw Lane that had no.30 in it, has sadly now been re-developed, but the houses still exist further down the road and it is safe to assume that N0.30 would have been very similar to these.

Obviously James did not write anything until his leave ended and he was back in Portsmouth on 5th August, but we hope to publish some of his earlier letters / diary entries that you may have missed, during this period of ‘leave’.
