6 February 1917 – Goes ashore Portland Island

DIARY: Proceeded inside harbour, took in water and coal, starboard watch had night ashore. Looked around Portland which is an old village very hilly and built largely of stone.  There is a fort manned by RGA on top of the hill behind which is the famous convict prison.  Specially noted for Portland stone.
